In the years following its establishment in June 2016, the Zep Wellness Foundation's ``World Digital Detox Day`` (WDDD) initiative gained significant traction and recognition both in India and internationally. The foundation, being a non-profit organization dedicated to wellness and well-being research, focused on marginalized communities like secluded rural areas and indigenous groups in India. Through their efforts, they sought to rediscover and preserve the ancient secrets of a healthy lifestyle and behavioral patterns that have been lost in the fast-paced modern world.
By delving into the lifestyle, food habits, and mindset of these tribal communities, the Zep Foundation gained valuable insights. They used this knowledge to empower the rural tribal youth, particularly women, in the wellness industry. This endeavor resulted in the successful transformation of over 2000 youth, providing them with new opportunities for personal and professional growth.
The unique and pioneering aspect of the Zep Foundation's movement was the establishment of ``World Digital Detox Day.`` Recognizing the adverse effects of excessive digital exposure, the foundation initiated Digital Detox Education from a young age. Their aim was to help the younger generation understand the importance of creating wellness hours in schools, solely dedicated to digital detox, mental health, and overall well-being. This groundbreaking wellness-hours curriculum was introduced to schools on December 10, 2022, making it the first of its kind not only in India but also worldwide.
The foundation strongly believes in setting healthy guidelines and boundaries for society's relationship with technology. By starting this education from an early age, they aimed to prevent the development of ``digital dementia`` and preserve essential elements of human interaction and well-being in an era dominated by technology.
Beyond the ``World Digital Detox Day`` initiative, the Zep Wellness Foundation extended its efforts to empower women in the wellness industry and positively impact the lives of thousands of children. They ran various programs, including providing educational resources to students, teaching them how to strike a healthy balance between their online and offline lives.
At its core, the Zep Foundation sought to promote mental wellness and cultivate a healthy relationship between technology and happiness. Recognizing the increasing influence of technology in all aspects of life, Dr. Rekha, the visionary behind the foundation, collaborated with thought leaders from diverse industries such as wellness, healthcare, government, technology, and education to address the challenges posed by digital overload.
